In this video, we talk about Oyate Wo‑Waštéda — our connection to one another — and why healthy relationships and a strong sense of belonging are just as important as food, movement, and sleep.

Modern medicine now confirms what our ancestors always knew: when people feel connected, supported, and needed, rates of heart disease, stroke, depression, and dementia go down, and our ability to make healthy choices goes up.

For generations, our people lived in families, societies, and tiyóšpaye. We depended on one another, survived together, and thrived together. Oyate Wo‑Waštéda reminds us that my thriving and your thriving are inseparable.

This conversation explores what community really looks like in everyday life — checking in on one another, helping elders, teaching the young, supporting those who are struggling, offering encouragement, holding each other accountable, and practicing forgiveness. Community feeds the spirit and helps us make better choices because none of us walk this path alone.
